I first got the idea for Rain Frog Apparel during a car ride with my (then) 3-year-old son, during which he recited the Pledge of Allegiance. At the end, he innocently replaced the traditional words, saying instead, “with liberty and justice for frogs.” I didn’t correct him.
Throughout history, frogs have been a part of legend and folklore around the world. The Spirit of the Green Frog was a minor deity in ancient China—a creature that enjoyed wine and feasting. Ancient Egyptians created carvings and religious statues in the image of frogs. In South and Central America, frogs were often associated with rain and were even used by tribes to predict when rain would come. Native Americans, too, held the frog in high regard, viewing it as a symbol of rain and water.
Rain Frog Apparel was founded with the mission of elevating these tiny creatures, and the earth as a whole, to their former status—by caring for the planet upon which we all live. Today, nearly one-third of the world’s amphibian species are threatened, and some are already extinct. This decline in amphibian species is just one indicator of the threats facing our planet, including climate change, pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction. Around the world, countless species are in danger, along with the fragile ecosystems in which they live.
While we cannot fix the world by ourselves, we can, as a group, create positive changes, even if only on a small, local scale. In addition to using ecoconscious fibers like bamboo and organic cotton, Rain Frog sells a selection of organic vitamins, minerals and supplements along with biodegradable laundry soap. It is this commitment to supporting organic lifestyles that ensures you are not only wearing the best products, but also caring for them and your own body in an ecoconscious way. In this way, we can achieve the simple message set forth by my son—not only for the frogs, but for all of us.
